Ola Lager

 

Ola Lager’s main interest during his school years was drawing and writing essays. With that combination of narrative zest and a will to express himself through pictures, it was a natural choice to take up photography. For Ola it began as a hobby but became a profession when he was hired at an advertising studio in the late 1950s, receiving a valuable education.


Up until the end of the 1960s, Ola worked as a photographer at various advertising agencies. In 1969 he started his own company and before long he began getting assignments as a record sleeve photographer. “The record companies no longer wanted to use any old photo, now they wanted staged pictures,” Ola remembers. His main employer was the record company Polar Music, where one of the groups was ABBA. During the period 1974–1979, Ola photographed a great number of album and single sleeves for ABBA – albums such as Waterloo, ABBA, Arrival, Voulez-Vous and Greatest Hits Vol. 2 sold by the millions. He also took pictures for major Swedish artists such as Lena Andersson, Svenne & Lotta, Ted Gärdestad, Björn Skifs and Eva Dahlgren.


However, Ola Lager has mainly been working for clients outside the music business, and today he is still active as a photographer
